Dear Members

It has been an interesting few months and my love for our club has only grown stronger and more passionate than ever, it always will be my home away from home. These last months have flown by, and I can’t believe people are already mentioning Christmas. It won’t be long until we see Christmas decorations and hearing Michael Buble on the radio.I want to thank all the committee members for their dedication and time. I believe we have strong team, that will add great value to the benefit of our club. There has been a lot on the go with many successful events and good changes happening in and around Krugersdorp golf course. I must thank Johan our green keeper and his team for all their hard the work and presenting us with a beautiful course week in and week out. Not to mention all their involvement with the new projects on the course, such as the flower beds, bunkers and tree planting.

I am sure members have noticed the work around the course, updated honours boards and all the other work happening around the club that may not be visible to everyone.

I want to remind all members we are here to serve Krugersdorp golf club and always try to make the best decision for the club and its members. That being said, we are also human and we always appreciate positive and constructive feedback from all members. Please feel free to share any suggestions you may have on how to improve the club and the overall experience associated with the club. Captains Draw Feedback

Captain’s draws have been a huge hit as we have been trying some different artists and some fresh new ideas, I want to say big thank to Conroy King for always assisting with the quiz’s and a big thank you to Charl in the Pro shop for always being so willing to help.

Thank you to all the staff that make these evenings possible and of course all you members, you are the heart of the club and without you, there is no Krugersdorp Golf Club.

Thank you to Rusty and his team for feeding us with some delicious, tasty treats and dishes.

In July this year we gave a huge R 40 000 away in the captains draw to Mr Michael Ford and in the same night we gave away an even bigger R176 090 in the Jokers draw to Piet Ellof, Martin Lippinkhof and their families.

With the change of the season bringing back the warm weather, and both Joker & Captains draws back to their early stages respectfully, we returned to the Lapa on the 6th of September and had a band called Rapsody. This was a huge success, the atmosphere and the vibe was electric.

The most recent captains draw brought about another winner walking away with a lovely R10 000 well done to Mr Tom Lugg. A change in Captain has certainly brought a change in fortune to our members!

We look forward to seeing you all again on the 31st of October for another unforgettable evening, with the captains draw @ R10 000 and the joker draw is now @ R21 332.

I am always looking for ways to improve and make Captains draw more fun and enjoyable for the entire family so, I am always open to any ideas you our members may have. League Standings

Firstly, I would like to thank each league player at Krugersdorp Golf club for your dedication and commitment it does not go unseen, we thank you for taking the time away from your family to represent our club and make our name known amongst other clubs. We are a force to be reckoned with, and I am sure when other clubs hear our name it gets them rattled.

Well done to all and thank to all the selectors/captains of these teams that take the time to choose the best possible and reliable teams, we appreciate your effort.

  • Scratch League: Our scratch league team is sitting in the middle of the table with two more games to play let’s give it our best in the next two games and make our club proud.

  • Mid Am A: Mid Am A side is doing fantastically and are at the top of the leaderboard with two more games to play, come on guys go and get the win you guys are doing great work, lets push to get promoted to the A Division.

  • Mid Am B: Our Mid Am B side is equally as fantastic and at the top of the log with one bye for this weekend which is great and the last game against Jackal creek, go and get that promotion guys we are proud of all of you.

  • Better Ball Youngsters: With all the games completed unfortunately, the youngsters just couldn’t get the wins they needed, with too many loses and halves, the youngster team finished second last and will be dropping down to D division next year.

  • Better Ball Experienced Campaigners: With all the games completed the experienced campaigners did what experienced golfers do, but unfortunately also just couldn’t get the wins they need but managed to secure 4th place in the D division. Well done to you all.

  • Ladies Weekday: Well done to our ladies’ weekday league are sitting 3rd on the table with one more game against Eagle Canyon, well done ladies.

  • Ladies Sunday: Ladies Sunday league is sitting 2nd on table with one more games to play, a win could get us to the top of the leader board.

Special Events Boere vs Souties This event always brings about great excitement with the members mainly the Saturday morning field. A great game of better ball match play, with a lovely braai some drinks (more than some I must admit ) and a day filled with great comradery, laughter and some decent golf. The Boere brought their A game and were too much for the Souties beating us 24 -20.

Well done Boere but I can guarantee that the Souties will be coming back firing and level the scores on the next outing. Hulle weet nie wat ons weet nie!

   Ladies committee vs Men’s Committee

This was a great day played in great spirit and even though I got taught a golfing lesson from our lady’s captain Cornellia the men’s committee still manged to walk away with the win. We look forward to another lovely day next year

Vrouens vs Ouens

Another tournament played with great comradery Ladies take on the gents and battle it out to see who will come out on top, this year well done to the Vrouens for showing the Ouens this is not just a man’s game and taking the win. Well done ladies

I know there were a lot of events arranged by the ladies and we would like to thank the lady’s section for all their involvement throughout this year so far, I am sure they will tell us all about it.

We look forward to any new and upcoming events and urge everyone to participate in these.

Under the Lapa

I have always been a strong believer in creating a vibe under the Lapa for our members we have recently purchased speaker which we play some music just to create a nice vibe when you are done battling out on the course it’s always enjoyable to listen to some tunes have a beer and a chat with your mates.

We have created a nice gees under the Lapa and music always seems to be a value add, we have also been trying to encourage people to bring their families with for certain days as we put up the jumping castle and light the fires because in South Africa it’s all about a lekker braai with your friends and family whether it’s to watch rugby or just have a chilled afternoon, we would like to start doing this more often.

I urge you all to get involved in these events and to keep your eyes peeled to our WhatsApp groups for upcoming events it is always a day to remember. Golf Days

Golf days are a very important part of Krugersdorp this not only brings in additional income but allows visitors to come and experience our beautiful golf course and facilities, we know that golf days can be tough on the course when it comes to divots and pitch marks but again thank you to Johan and his team for doing their best to give us a great golf course even after a big golf day.

We have hosted over 40 golf days and plenty group bookings which is brilliant, well done to Jason, Calvin and all staff I have had such good feedback from many golf days and I know we already have a lot of happy customers that cannot wait to come back.Once again thank you to all our members for giving me the opportunity to serve you and make Krugersdorp golf course the best overall experience, we value you all and cannot do this without you, I look forward to the next few months where we can take the club to new heights.

Yours sincerely:

Grant Syme

Club Captain.

LADIES COMMITTEE UPDATE The Krugersdorp ladies have been busy over the last few months and, despite the chilly winter weather, the support for our special competitions has been overwhelming, both on the golf course and for our various charity drives throughout the year. Without the support from members, none of this would have been possible – thank you sincerely.

  • Our Mixed Open, with its Superhero theme, was extremely popular and wonderfully supported. With all the superhero outfits on display, it truly was a “super” day!

  • Ladies Open Day – Christmas in July was held on a cold winter’s day.  Even so, it was a memorable day for those who braved the weather, with plenty of prizes and fun all round. Many thanks to our sponsors.

  • June is always a highlight for the Ladies Section, with our annual Captain vs Vice Captain competition. What an incredible day this was! Along with the fierce competition, it was filled with friendship, camaraderie and lots of fun. In the end Cornelia thoroughly enjoyed lifting that special trophy on behalf of the Captain’s team!

  • The annual Ouens vs Vrouens competition was another highlight. This year, the Vrouens emerged victorious – well done, ladies!

  • Captain’s Day carried a Farmers Day theme, with authentic farmer outfits (and even a horse rider!) and a menu to match. It was a day of tough but good-spirited competition and lots of fun.

  • On Women’s Day, we hosted a committee challenge. The men’s committee was a little too strong for us this time, but one ladies’ team managed a win – which certainly made our day! We are already looking forward to the next challenge.

Our charity drives these past few months have also been an enormous success. Thank you to all who contributed:

  • Fora Animal Shelter – grateful for all the donated clothes, which they sell to raise much-needed funds.

  • Mandela Day Charity Drive – proceeds went to the Wings of Inspiration Care Centre, a shelter for abused women and children. In addition, we collected groceries for the centre during August and September.

  • We have introduced the Ladies Piggy Bank: every time a player hits a ball into the water, it’s R5 in the pot. At the end of the year, the total will be donated to a charity of our choice. We’d love for the men to join us in this project – after all, it’s for a great cause!

  • Keep an eye out for our Wheelbarrow Raffle coming soon – tickets will be just R10 for a chance to win a wheelbarrow filled with goodies.

  • Our R100 Club will also return, with only 100 tickets available at R100 each – the perfect chance to win some extra money for your Christmas shopping!

  • The monthly mini draws remain very popular. At the June Captain’s Draw, a record tickets were sold!  The more we sell, the bigger the prize money, so thank you for the amazing support.

On the course, our Ladies League teams are performing well and we remain positive about the results still to come.

Looking ahead, our next big event will be President’s Day on 18 October, which promises to be very special. And before we know it, our year will close with the Ladies Christmas Alliance in December – how quickly this year has flown!

We belong to an incredible club, and would like to thank each and every member for your ongoing support of the Ladies Section at Krugersdorp Golf Club.

With gratitude,

Cornelia our ladies Captain.
